As fire started on a passenger train named Gautami Express that was passing through a forest area 125 miles north of Hyderabad, at least 20 people died. The fire broke out in the state of Andhra Pradesh, in southern India.

The officials believe that the fire was caused by an electric short circuit, but the exact causes are still under investigation. The weak system of India railroad doesn’t stop the state-run railways to carry more than 13 million passengers each day.

Warangal district was the place where the fire started and at least five coaches of the train were captured by the blazes, as district police announced. VC Sajianar, senior police officer reported for the BBC that “The fire started from S-10 coach of the Gautami Express at around 1:10 am local time (2040 GMT)."

As the blazes were spreading, the passengers pulled the chain to stop the train and people started to jump out of it, to save their lives. 20 people weren’t able to jump anymore, as the shock of the blazes didn’t give them time to do anything.
Three handicapped people and a woman were among the dead, according to police statements. Four of the wounded passengers were quickly taken to the hospital.

No report came back to announce their current state. Emergency staff and doctors were sent to the scene to rescue the injured.

Among the passengers, there was a minister in the state government, but he escaped uninjured.

Trains between Warangal and Khammam were disrupted until officials could figure out the exact cause of the fire. Several trains have been cancelled off their route and long-distance trains have been stopped.
