Fast-food restaurants use to deliver quick meals for kids. But what exactly could be found in these menus? Study shows that 90% of these meals have more than the calories recommended on a day for one child. Many of them are also full of salt and fats!
After the study made by The Center for Science in the Public Interest, it was obvious that no healthy food for children could be found in several fast-food chains. And still, the meals are attractive, sometimes one meal includes a toy or the box that is offered is full of cartoons. So there is nothing to say about the marketing process. What about the healthy food?
KFC, Taco Bell, Sonic, Jack in the Box and every fast-food restaurants that offers meals for children are too high in calories. The study was made by examining the menus for 13 of such restaurants. And CSPI’s report was just like this: "Ninety-three percent of 1,474 possible choices at the 13 chains exceed 430 calories.”
For example, Chili’s has 700 kids’ meal combinations, but 94% exceed the number of calories recommended by doctors. This means that the children get twice the calories they need for a day by only one meal.
Still, the CSPI showed that Subway is the best choice for children. "Only a third of its Fresh Fit for Kids meals, which include a mini-sub, juice box and one of several healthful side items (apple slices, raisins, or yogurt) exceed the 430-calorie threshold."
