Akon Faces Trial on Criminal Charges
Akon Faces Trial on Criminal Charges

The Hip-Hop star will face a trial on criminal charges. The police have been investigating the case since last summer, when Akon, 35, threw a fan off the stage during one of his New York’s concerts last June. After the singer talked to his lawyer in Fishkill Town Court, he asked for a jury trial. If a deal isn’t negotiated in the meantime, he will have to be in court on December 1.

Akon faces charges of endangering the welfare of a minor and second-degree harassment, a violation, but he pleaded not guilty. Still, another girl who attended the show stated that she had suffered a concussion after the boy thrown by the hip-hop star landed on her.

Judge Harold Epstein met privately with Andrea Zellan, Akon’s lawyer, and they concluded that the trial will start December 1st unless a deal is reached. Zellan said that they “are pleased that Judge Epstein adjourned the case to a date certain for either a trial or a negotiated resolution."

“Akon looks forward to putting this incident behind him, and in the meantime he will continue to meet every requirement set forth by the court”, his lawyer added.

Akon, his real name Aliaune Thiam, gained fame in 2004 with his single “Locked Up” from his debut album “Trouble.” The singer won a Grammy Award with his second album, “Konvicted,” for the single “Smack That.”  Akon also has his won label, Konvict Musik and is also the founder of Kon Live Distribution.
