The National Breast Cancer Awareness Month lasts all October. This is the only celebration which helps bringing people together to raise awareness about the terrible type of cancer because of which so many women die annually. Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States, as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stated.

Regarding the annually death toll, breast cancer is the second most common cause of death from cancer in women, after lung cancer.

Breast cancer is a type of cancer which starts in the cells of the breast in women…but also in men. In 2005, for example, breast cancer killed 502,000 people all around the world. This type of cancer develops in the breasts, which are composed of identical tissues in men and in women.

The first symptom of breast cancer is usually a lump that feels different than the other tissue part of the breast. Commonly, nearly 80% of breast cancer cases are discovered only when the woman feels that lump. But breast cancer is discovered, in medical terms and actions, through a mammogram. The lumps found in lymph nodes are located in the armpits.

Also the size of the breast can change when cancer is developed inside it. It can change its shape, the skin may dimple, the nipple can inverse and these are just a few of the symptoms that breast cancer can show.
