Attacks in Bagdad Rise Death Toll to 22

Officials in Baghdad are truly concerned about the safety of their country after two suicide bombings killed at least 16 people. The attack occurred near Shiite mosques in Baghdad on Thursday and the people who paid with their lives were worshippers who were celebrating Eid al-Fitr, which is the festival that marks the end of the holy Muslim month of Ramadan.

6 other people were shot to dead during an ambush in the north of the capital. A suicide bomb blew off in a Shitte district of southern Baghdad, called Jadida, and 12 people died while 30 others were wounded. Another attack was provoked by a car which was full of explosive near the neighborhood of Zafaraniyah. This blast killed four people and wounded 10 other worshippers.

An open fire near the city of Baqua killed six people. Baqua is the capital of the restive province of Diyala, which is known to be the most dangerous province of Iraqi.

These attacks came on while many of the Shiites in Iraqi were celebrating Eid. Since last year, Iraqi has been the main target for terrible violence attacks. September brought a total of 440 Iraqis killed. 359 civilians, 26 soldiers and 55 policemen were among the dead. The death toll in August rose to 431.

Now, the first 21 days of Ramadan were quietly celebrated. Major General Jeffery Hammond, the US commander for Baghdad, said that 60 people killed this period is nothing comparing to 600 killed in 2007 and 800 in 2006.
