Health Coverage Sustained by McCain and Obama
Health Coverage Sustained by McCain and Obama

Another battlefield for senators John McCain and Barack Obama is now represented by the health insurances. Since they got more expensive and many don’t have the money to pay them, the two candidates for the United States President have built two plans to reduce the ranks of the uninsured. An analysis predicted that McCain’s plan would reduce the ranks with about 21.1 million people and Obama with more than 26.6 million before 2010.

The number of the uninsured is now reaching up to 45 million people and some reviews made some time ago say that McCain can substantially reduce this number. The Lewin Group, a consulting firm, also said that McCain plan would help much more people. His project will cost $2 trillion from 2010 to 2019 and Obama’s will only reach up to $1.17 trillion.

Still, neither of them said for certain from where this money will come. The Republican candidate stated that a tax of $2,500 for individuals and $5,000 for families who pays the health insurance will might cover the total. In addition, he also wants to let people travel outside the states with their health insurances valid in any other country.

Yet, the Lewin Group said that many employees will lose their sponsored health coverage if they chose for McCain’s plan because companies will stop giving the coverage if workers use the tax credits to get that coverage from another place.

John Sheils, the firm's senior vice president, said that the plan which Obama has is more accessible to the people and especially for those who have chronic health conditions. As long as McCain would cover only a quarter of ones with a chronic condition, Obama will cover half of them.
