UK Education Needs Improvement

The UK education is said to be the highest one in the world. But a group made by the most important universities has recently announced that if no investment is made, the UK universities might lose their standing as top study places. Times Higher Education-QS World University Rankings has shown that Cambridge and Oxford, the most important universities in the UK have dropped to third and fourth places.

It seems that other nations have started to invest more money in their education system and especially in the higher one. Other universities have now become important, the Russell Group, which represents 20 research-intensive universities, announced.

Still, the group was satisfied about the fact that their universities continue to perform very good regarding the major global competitors. The fears are connected to the accuracy of “league tables,” as Dr Wendy Piatt, director general of the Russell Group, stated.

"We are very concerned about our ability to sustain this level of success in the face of fierce global competition. The table reflects the growing strength of our major competitors - particularly the US institutions - who benefit from much higher levels of investment than UK universities," Piatt added. Still, the major competition isn’t just the one which comes from the United States.

According to Piatt’s saying, China is the country which looks like going forward with its investments in higher education. China “already looks set to overtake the UK very soon in terms of total research publications, and its universities have been steadily climbing up international league tables," she said.
