Manchester United defender Jonny Evans was given bail on Wednesday
after his arrest on suspicion of raping a 26-year-old woman at the
club's Christmas party on Monday night, the BBC said.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were called to the Great John Street Hotel in Manchester at 4.15am on Tuesday.
Evans was granted bail until February 23 pending further inquiries.
"Detectives investigating a report of rape at a Manchester city
centre hotel have arrested a 19-year-old," a police spokesman said on
Tuesday night.
"He was arrested on suspicion of rape this evening after presenting himself to police. He remains in custody."
Evans made his first-team debut for United in a Carling Cup defeat
against Coventry in September and also represented them in the
Champions League this season.
United have declined to make any comment on the news and police
have not named Evans, though his identity has been revealed in several
newspapers.
