At least three people were wounded Wednesday after a bomb went off in a city 17 kilometers east of Beirut, local police reported. About ten kilos of explosive were planted near a building in the center of Aley according to preliminary reports, the powerful blast seriously affective the integrity of the construction.
This is the third terrorist act that rocks areas in the vicinity of Beirut only this week. Lebanon’s capital was stun by two bomb explosions that killed one person and gravely wounded 22 people.
Wednesday’s attack was similar to the previous ones, the police said, as the summer mountain resort was partially paralyzed by the “horrific” blast. Other buildings were also damaged, traffic through the town’s center area was blocked by rubble and broken glass.
A large community of Druzes populates the small city, which was for a while the summer capital of the Ottoman governors of Mount Lebanon. Thousands of tourists visit Aley every summer, running from the dog days that scorch the life out of inhabitants of Beirut and other localities in the region during the summer.
