According to British officials, the Prime Minister Gordon Brown visited the Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Friday, in a meeting that promised major expansion of bilateral trade after they held talks that also focused on international security and the environment.

Brown revealed that they had agreed to the expansion of bilateral trade to a target of 60 billion dollars annually by 2010, compared to the 37 billion dollars last year.

He also stated that he aims to broaden dialogue with China from politics and economics to science, education, culture, sport and "all major issues affecting two countries and the whole world."

Through the agreement, Britain hopes to attract more Chinese investment.

"This year is going to be an incredibly successful year for both the Chinese economy and China as the host of the Olympic Games," Brown said.

During his three-day visit, which is his first in China, the British prime minister was also scheduled to address to a Sino-British business summit in Beijing, along with Wen. Bround will also meet President Hu Jintao and will visit Beijing's prestigious People's University and the Olympic venues.

Just before leaving London, Gordon Brown declared for the Xinhua news agency that the relations between Britain and China are "better than ever", while Britain expects that the expansion should create several thousands of new jobs over the next two years.

British officials said in London that the foreign policy issues that would be discussed in Beijing included the crises in Darfur, Iran and Zimbabwe.
