Hamas: Caporal Shalit Will Be Murdered
The armed wing of Hamas threatened to slay the abducted caporal Gilad Shalit if Israeli airstrikes continue in the Gaza Strip and any of their leaders will be killed.

"Israel can forget about Shalit, if leading members of Hamas die," a Hamas spokesperson said.

Caporal Gilad Shalit of the Israeli Armed Corps was abducted on 25 June 2006, when his unit was attacked by Palestinian militants on the southern Gaza Strip border. The militants attacked a post on the border in the early hours, killing two soldiers and wounded four others. Among the injured was Shalit, who had a broken hand and was kidnapped by the Palestinian gunmen.

Several rescue operations were launched after his disappearance, unfortunately with no success. The government and other renowned personalities tried to negotiate Shalit’s release, but the armed wing of the Palestinian Islamist organization firmly held its position.

Previously, Hamas asked for the release of all Palestinian prisoners with ages under 18, but Israel failed to comply and Shalit remains even now in the militants custody.
