Despite big sale boosts for the Grammy winners, Jack
Johnson’s album “Sleep Through the Static” remained the No.1 album in the
Billboard Chart for a second week, selling about 180,000 copies, Reuters
reports.
The Grammy winners Amy Winehouse and Herbie Hancock are in
top 5, after the post-Grammy Awards sales. Amy Winehouse jumped 22 places to
No.2 with her album “Back to Black”, selling 115,000 copies, according to
Nielsen SoundScan. Herbie Hancock jumped from No.159 to No.5, with his “River:
The Joni Letters”, which was declared the album of the year, with 54,000 sales.
The 3rd place of the chart is occupied by Alicia
Keys, who performed at the Grammy Awards and also won two prizes. Her album “As
I Am” sold 109,000 copies.
The compilation “2008 Grammy Nominees” occupies the 4th
position, with 72,000 sales, while the soundtrack to “Juno” is on the 6th
place, with 53,000 sales.
Among other Grammy honorees who benefited from the Awards,
the Foo Fighter’s rock album of the year winner "Echoes, Silence, Patience
and Grace" leaped 43 places to No.22 with 33,000 copies sold and Kanye
West’s rap album winner “Graduation” occupied the 40th position,
selling 23,000 copies.
“Thriller:
25th Anniversary Edition” would have occupied the 2nd position, with
166,000 sales, if it hadn’t been a catalog title and, therefore, ineligible for
the Billboard 200. The
project contains tracks reworked by Fergie, Akon, Kanye West and Will.i.am.
Overall, sales increased with 16 percent from last week, but
were down 11.6 percent from the post-Grammies week last year.
