Scarlett Johansson’s album “Anywhere I Lay My Head”
represents her full-length debut as a singer, and it consists almost entirely
of Tom Waits covers. The album also includes one original track written by Johansson
along with David Andrew Sitek. David Bowie makes an appearance on two songs, “Falling
Down” and “Fannin Street.”
Johansson’s sentimental album is a hybrid of jazz, blues and
Indie rock delivered with a backdrop of nature. Filled with stories of love,
regret and the refusal of growing old, the CD opens with first track titled “Fawn,”
a melody with somber tones and full of emotion. “Green Grass” has poetic lyrics
regarding love after death.
Suggested downloads: “Song for Jo” and “I Don't Wanna Grow
Up.”
