Stunning Angelina Jolie is leaving the Cannes Film Festival
with talk of Oscar possibilities and her coming twins, People reports. The 32-year-old
starlet and director Clint Eastwood, 77, earned impressive reviews for “Changeling,”
which got predictions of major awards. The movie premiered Tuesday, May 20.
Reviewer Todd McCarthy wrote, “Impressive as she [Jolie] may
have been as the wife of Danny Pearl, her performance here hits home more
directly” and the Los Angeles Times agreed. “Based on this powerful and searing
performance, it would be a good bet she will again be in the hunt for the Best
Actress nomination that eluded her for A Mighty Heart last year,” journalist
Pete Hammond said, quoted by People. Meanwhile, Eastwood’s direction has been
called “flawless” and the response to the movie “rapturous.”
“Angelina is fantastic in Changeling. She is an amazing
actress” Clint Eastwood said, according to the same source. When asked about the
Oscar buzz, he added, “I don’t want to think that far ahead.”
“Changeling” focuses on the disappearance of a child in a
period of time that finds the situation unimaginable in contemporary American
society. Jolie stars as a tenacious mother who is trying to gather strength
from the forces that oppose her. The cast also includes Geoff Pierson, Jeffrey
Donovan, Jason Butler Harner, Colm Feore, Amy Ryan and Michael Kelly.
The movie is due to release in the U.S. on
November 7.
