The Firefox hype is slowing down now that "Download Day" has passed. Mozilla should be, and probably is, very proud, as Firefox 3.0 was downloaded by more than ten million users worlwide in only two days.

Mozilla’s software can now be found in the Guiness Book of World Records, under the most downloaded software in 24 hours section.

According to President of Mozilla Europe, Tristan Nitot, during the first 14 hours after the launch, no less than five million downloads were recorded. Even the most optimistic expectations of company officials have been surpassed. In the end, after 24 hours, the meter showed 8 million downloads.

It is estimated that Mozilla’s browser has a share of about 15 - 18 percent globally. Despite the many problems users usually complain about, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer continues to lead the charts with about 70 percent. By the end of 2008, some analysts expect Firefox to reach a 30 percent market share.

Mozilla people said the new software comes with over 15,000 adjustments and enhancements when compared to the previous version. "Put on your party hats and get ready to download Firefox 3 — the best web browser, period," the company confidently said.

Among the numerous Firefox 3.0 features, both old and new, we find the smart location bar, one-click bookmarking, smart zoom (it can be used to enlarge the entire content of the page, not just the text) and the ability to resume downloads in the case of Internet connection failure.

Firefox 3.0 is based on the new Gecko 1.9 Web rendering engine, that brings a significant improvement regarding both stability and performance.

Considering all this, there’s a definite chance for the software to soon start a significant expansion of its user base.
