Samsung Starts Serious 128GB SSD Production

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., the world’s number one company in the advanced semiconductor technology business, said today it has started the mass production of its 1.8-inch and 2.5-inch multi-level cell-based solid state drives (SSDs) of 128GB capacity.

Gerd Schauss, Director Memory Marketing EMEA, Samsung Semiconductor Europe, said the company’s 64 GB and 128 GB MLC SSDs come to satisfy the "density requirements" of businesses and private PC users alike. He went on to mention that the new SSDs bring not only performance gains and increased reliability, but beter prices as well. Samsung’s MLC-based SSDs have a 70MB/s write speed and a 70MB/s read speed.

Samsung shows a lot of confidence in its products as, by 2010, the company expects to record an 800 percent sale increase for its SSD units.

Samsung has about 150,000 employees, scattered all over the world in 62 countries, and is made up of four different units: Digital Media Business, LCD Business, Semiconductor Business, and Telecommunication Business.

It seems that 2008 is turning out to be quite a busy year for Samsung: at the end of April, the company launched its new line of desktop monitors, called "Touch Of Color" (TOC). The TOC monitors come with multi screen functionality; users can thus divide the screen into several different sessions, depending on the nature of the work that is to be done.
