Britney Spears hit the jackpot with Monday’s broadcast of
“How I Met Your Mother.” According to Nielsen Media Research an estimated 10.62
million viewers watched the pop singer playing the role of a receptionist,
meaning almost 3 million more viewers from what the sitcom averaged before the
writers’ strike.
Britney Spears was appreciated for her talent in playing the
role of a doctor’s receptionist in the U.S. comedy. Moreover, the New York
Daily News said: "Spears proved she can act every bit as well as she can
sing,” the New York Post adding that: "Brit looked slim, trim and
gorgeous.”
Spears’ character was supposed to fall in love with the
comedy’s main protagonist, Ted, and as a result she had to flirt with him a
lot. Maybe the fact that she felt “terrific” while working on the show was felt
by the audience, who was really attracted by Britney’s performance.
Bruce Fretts, editor-at-large for TV Guide said that Britney
was as good off camera as she was on: "She showed up on time, knew her
lines, was a good comedian and was able to do improvs. The cast really liked
her … the crew really liked her." According to insiders the pop star
showed up accompanied by her mom and dad.
Fretts added: "This is a step in the right direction
for her. This is the first thing we have seen her do in a while that seems like
a smart move … that she's in charge and that she's trying to do something
positive for a change." Moreover, he said that time is the one to decide
whether Britney’s life will go back on the proper track, but he put the stress
on the fact that by playing this character the public had the chance too see
her in a different light.
