Rachel Ray’s Scarf, a Source of Misperception

A promotional commercial featuring TV chef Rachel Ray was pulled after she was accused of dressing like a terrorist. Critics said the black-and-white scarf with a paisley floral design offered symbolic support for Muslim extremism and terrorism.

In the ad, the host of one of the top-ranked daytime programs on television wears a black T-shirt and a scarf around her neck. She holds an iced coffee in her hand.

The black-and-white neck wrap worn by Rachel Ray in the commercial is accused of symbolizing a keffiyeh, a traditional headdress worn by Arab man.

Fox news columnist Michelle Malkin explains the garment “has come to symbolize murderous Palestinian jihad. Popularized by Yasser Arafat and a regular adornment of Muslim terrorists appearing in beheading and hostage-taking videos, the apparel has been mainstreamed by both ignorant (and not-so-ignorant) fashion designers, celebrities, and left-wing icons.” Arab men wore the keffiyeh to protect their heads from the heat.

Dunkin’ Donuts told AP the scarf had a paisley design, and was selected by a stylist for the advertising shoot. The company eventually pulled the commercial and made the statement, “In a recent online ad, Rachael Ray is wearing a black-and-white silk scarf with a paisley design. It was selected by her stylist for the advertising shoot. . . . Absolutely no symbolism was intended. However, given the possibility of misperception, we are no longer using the commercial,” SFgate.com reported.

In February, several pictures with John McCain’s daughter Meghan wearing a similar scarf circulated in the media. Her mother, Cindy said that it “didn’t occur to her that her daughter shouldn’t be wearing that.”

What happened to the United States of America???? What happened to freedom? What happened to freedom of speech? That is what this country was built on! What the F are we doing?? All in the name of political correctness! We can't wear a scarf thats black and white any more!! Are you kidding me. Wake up America!!!! Who are the extremists now???? Telling people what they can and can't wear, telling people what they can and can't say. Sounds just like some parts of the Middle East to me.

I am almost amazed at the level of stupidity that we as Americans are willing to stoop to.
“A scarf” come on now. So what we are saying, is that now “ In God we Trust must come off our currency, We must get rid of the confederate flag, fireworks are illegal in Louisiana but not automatic rifles, and our woman must choose better when deciding to where a scarf. Where does it end?
I tell you we are so wrapped up in fighting the explosive type terrorizism that we tend to ignore the type that changes the interior fabric of our country. Remember when we had freedom of speech?
If Rachel’s scarf offends anyone because it resembles one of Yasser Arafat’s stylish covers, please let me say with all due respect “ your an idiot” Maybe Mr. Arafat was just a fashionesta. With this kind of thinking maybe we should not be seen wearing blue jeans as well Saddam was known to have several pairs of acid washed button fly’s in his closet.
Lastly, to Dunkin Donuts, I’d like to say “Nice Cave job” I hope your lack of a backbone helps you sell a million more Rainbow sprinkled frosted glaze crispy cruellers.
What are we coming to?

I always knew Rachael Ray was the diabolical head of a terrorist network. Her infectious smile and effervescent personality have lulled America to sleep while her cooking network minions have placed subliminal, antipatriotic thoughts in our heads. Perhaps Donkey Door Nuts should ship a butt load of their product to some of the worlds starving folks. Their foray into the espionage biz has been a terrible waste of resources.
Maybe the scarf is a terrorist...

Take a good look at the picture...maybe the garment is a terrorist.

Take off all your clothes!
By Heesay, (2008-05-29 18:29)
Your shoes are offensive because people step in dog poop with shoes on and I don't want to have to think about dog poop!

Your pants are offensive because I am fat and you look fine in those tight jeans.

Your shirt is offensive because its yellow and yellow is in the German flag which must mean you support NAZI's.

Take off all your clothes!

I won't be offended!

Have we deviated so far from common sense that we need to dictate a national dress code so as not offend?
Or maybe I should ask "Do people have nothing better to do than try to make something out of nothing?"
Ridiculous and offensive

Michelle Malkin is a tool of the fear-generating industry. Her job is to keep the word "terrorist" in front of our faces so that fear-based kneejerk reactions replace considered decision-making. Her assertion is misplaced, a bit like saying anyone who wears pants is a serial killer because Charles Manson, John Wayne Gacy and Ted Bundy wore them. Let's all send her scarves for Xmas.
So right

I never knew of this Michelle Malkin. I just read her article, and you are right on with your comments. and I didnt realize my collection of scarfs makes me a terrorist sympathizer-

Michelle Malkin is a freak. I guess everyone should watch what they wear so that she isn't offended. She should send out a nationwide Republican dress code so that Dunkin' Donuts and anyone else who wishes to fear her and submit to her rhetoric can dress appropriately.
Nutjob Republicans

Just like a true paranoid red republican donator... Dunkin' Donuts, sees anyone wearing a scarf as a terriorist.

Charge nurse, call the orderlies, restrain the conservatives from the internet, and break out the Thorazine. This is no problem that a little heavy sedation won't fix.
