Charges Dropped Against 3 Teens in Videotaped Beating

State prosecutors dropped charges against three of the eight teenagers involved with the horrible videotaped beating of a 16-year-old girl in central Florida.

Kidnapping and battery charges were dropped against Cara Murphy, 16, Stephen Schumaker, 18 and Zachary Ashley, 17. The State Attorney's Office said there was not enough evidence to sustain the charges against them.

Murphy’s attorney, Melodie Lopez, said her client had nothing to do with the incident. Her client was at the scene of the incident, but that was all that happened.

The other teens arrested were 17-year-old Brittany Mayes, 14-year-old April Cooper, 15-year-old Kayla Hassell, 17-year-old Brittni Hardcastle and 17-year-old Mercades Nichols. Polk County deputies said the boys, 17-yer-old Zachary Ashley and 18-year-old Stephen Schumaker, served as lookouts during the beating.

The five other teens involved remain charged. The eight teenagers were accused of beating Victoria Lindsay on March 30 at a Lakeland home. They said they did that because the victim used “trash-talking” with them. Two girls threatened her and another girl struck her in the head several times and slammed her head into the bedroom wall, leaving her unconscious. When she woke up, the girls began beating her again. The scene was recorded and the teenagers threatened to put the video on MySpace and YouTube. Victoria ended with a concussion and damage to her eye and ear, but also with emotional scars, which will probably affect her for the rest of her life, as her mother said.

Jail them and leave them behind in life. Life is to short to have Cheer leading thugs that want to be famous at the cost of other peoples safety and well being. We just don't need trash like them beating people for words they use. If they are found guilty give them the MAX the law has to offer. Then lock them in cages so every one else around them is safe and leave them there. The parents released these kids to society in monster mode. So I feel the parents should be held accountable to society. Jail them also
