Comedians Sarah Silverman and Jimmy Kimmel have broken up
after a five-year relationship, publicists for the couple said on Monday.
The two both have their own shows. Kimmel, 40, hosts the
late-night ABC television talk show “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, and Silverman, 37,
has her comedy show “The Sarah Silverman Program,” on the cable TV network
Comedy Central.
Earlier this year, the couple’s popularity grew enormously
due to a funny video duel. Silverman’s video, through which she announced her
boyfriend mockingly that she had an affair with Matt Damon, was launched on
Kimmel’s ABC show.
Kimmel later responded with another mock video, in which he
pretended to have a gay relationship with Matt Damon’s best friend and also one
of the handsomest actors, Ben Affleck. Kimmel’s video abounded in stars such as
Brad Pitt, Harrison Ford and Cameron Diaz. The video duel was watched by
millions of people and the couple gained a lot of fans in that period.
The news about Kimmel and Silverman’s break-up was first
reported by Vanity
Fair and then, Lewis Kay, and Silverman’s rep, Amy Zvi, confirmed that the
two comedians were no longer together. They also issued a joint statement that
“Jimmy and Sarah have and will have no further comment.”
Still, Silverman doesn’t look too much affected or at least
doesn’t want to let others know. Usmagazine.com
reports that she was spotted at Hugos in West Hollywood Saturday with a male
friend and she was “in good spirits.” An observer told the magazine Silverman
was “laughing and smiling,” but eventually she got engaged in a serious
conversation with her pal for about 20 minutes.
Before dating Silverman, Kimmel was married for 14 years,
but he divorced from his wife Gina in 2002. Silverman declared she wouldn’t get
married until gay marriage is legalized.
