Alicia Keys is nominated for five awards during the 2008 American Music Awards. Her nominations include artist of the year and favorite female artist in pop, rock, soul and R&B categories. The 27-year-old singer had her debut album “Songs in A Mirror” in 2002. The album was a total success which brought her five Grammy Awards in the same year and sold more than 11 million copies all around the world. “The Diary of Alicia Keys,” her second album, was released in 2003 and sold nearly 9 million copies. Her latest album, “As I Am,” from 2007, established her as one of the best-selling artists of the decade.
After Alicia Keys’ five nominations, Coldplay and Eagles gained themselves four nominations and Chris Brown and Lil Wayne three each. Jimmy Kimmel, American Music Awards host, said on Tuesday that they were also nominated for artist of the year. During a press conference at the Beverly Hills Hotel, Kimmel was accompanied by Jesse McCartney and Julianne Hough to announce the nominees.

Also Rihanna, Ne-Yo and the Pussycat Dolls will perform live during the awards’ night. The 2008 American Music Awards will be held at the Nokia Theatre on November 23 and will be aired live on ABC. The winners will be chose by their fans and viewers online and the votes will stop on November 7.
