Wii – To Be Or Not To Be?
Having both Sony and Microsoft fighting for sales of their gaming consoles, the Xbox and the PS3, you may observe that, in many cases, their statements don’t even name Nintendo’s Wii as a direct competitor. Instead, they try to ignore (at least when they speak to the media) that the Wii even exists, or it has the abilities to compete with them.

As an example, Microsoft reported, “Xbox 360 sales have also surged worldwide since the September price drop, outselling the PlayStation 3 week over week across Europe." Besides, Sony CEO, Howard Stringer, once stated, "I've played a Nintendo Wii. I don't see it as a competitor. It's more of an expensive niche game device."

It is clear that the Wii is doing something unpleasant for both Sony and Microsoft, that is, the sales of Nintendo’s device outdid the ones of PS3 and Xbox combined, as reports from Black Friday show. More than that, the price of the games and accessories is roughly the same in the case of all of the three devices.

It is clear for everyone that Nintendo’s Wii revolutionized the entire concept of playing games. It stated the idea that the way you are involved in the action and the way you play with your friends are important, rather than graphics or staggering physics. Following this statement, the Wii has never tried to impress with HD games for uber-gamers. The whole charm is the Wiimote which senses your moves and transfers them to your character in the game.

The fact that the Nintendo revived its legendary characters (Mario and his gang) and released new games made especially for the controller’s capabilities, not  only kept it in pace with Microsoft and Sony, but the sales literally went mad. It looked like all the efforts from the Xbox and the PS3 to create the ultimate game were in vain, as true gamers’ market is much narrower than the millions of families or just average people who bought the Wii just to have fun together.
