“Madea Goes to Jail” – in Front of the Chart

Tyler Perry scored a big victory on the typically slow Oscar weekend, walking away with the No. 1 movie, "Madea Goes to Jail," which raked in $41.1 million. All four of the cross-dressing comedian's "Madea" movies have opened in first place, but this latest installment was the highest-grossing ever for Perry's trademark grandma character.

Liam Neeson's kidnap thriller "Taken" found itself on the second place with $11.4 million in ticket sales in its fourth weekend.

"Coraline" jumped to No. 3 with an $11 million take, as the romantic comedy "He's Just Not That Into You" fell to No. 4 with sales of $8.5 million.

The great Oscar winner "Slumdog Millionaire" climbed from ninth to No. 5 after earning $8.1 million.

Last weekend's champion, a remake of "Friday the 13th," fell to No. 6 with a take of $7.8 million while the new college comedy "Fired Up!" failed to prove too interesting and landed No. 9 with $6 million in sales.

Shopping and mall-inspired comedies proved to have some staying power as "Confessions of a Shopaholic" earned $7.02 million and the seventh place. "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" snatched the No. 8 position with $7 million.

Rounding out the top 10 was the financial thriller "The International," which finished on No. 10 with $4.45 million in sales.
