The Detroit Red Wings defeated the Anaheim Ducks 2-1 in Game 1 of the Western Conference finals with two power-play goals. Detroit’s first goal came from Henrik Zetterberg on the power play just 3:34 into the game. Anaheim tied through an early second-period goal scored by Chris Kunitz. The decisive goal came with 4:54 left in regulation after a shot hit Tomas Holmstrom, who was standing in front of goal keeper Jean-Sebastien Giguere, and then dropped to the ice and got into the goal, giving Detroit the victory. Dominik Hasek's was brilliant on Friday night as The Anaheim Ducks outshot the Red Wings 32-19. He finished Friday night’s game with 31 saves, three of them in the final 24 seconds as Anaheim pulled their goal keeper Jean-Sebastien Giguere out of the game to get a six-on-four advantage over the Red Wings. "It was just a stellar performance. He came up really big for us," Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom declared. "He wants to see the shooter all the time - that's one the keys, try to keep the players off him a little bit so he can see that first shot and then help out on rebounds." "I was pretty tired, there was like three minutes without a whistle, I even lost my stick," Dominik Hasek said. "Fortunately, I made a save or somebody blocked a shot. I know one thing, if I don't give up a goal we win the game, and that's what happened." Detroit will host Game 2 Sunday night (CBC, 7:30 p.m. ET).
