Adobe Preparing Hosted Services Pacifica and CoCoMo
Adobe System Inc. has recently announced that it is preparing two hosted services that are to allow the developers to add real-time collaboration capabilities such as voice over IP (VoIP) and rich Internet applications (RIAs).The two services, which have been code-named Pacifica and CoCoMo, have been announced by the company with the occasion of its Adobe MAX 2007 user conference from Chicago.

Through Pacifica, the developers will be allowed to integrate voice, messaging and even user presence information into the applications they build using Adobe Flex, Adobe Integrated Runtime (AIR) or using the Flash technologies. Adobe Flex represents the company’s development environment for building rich Internet applications, which are Web-based applications incorporating multimedia for offering the users a rich experience. On the other hand, Adobe’s Integrated Runtime or AIR allows the developers to take those Web applications and move them to the desktop; the AIR is currently available only the beta-test form.

CoCoMo, the second host service that Adobe has announced, will be a next-generation framework for Adobe’s Connect Web conferencing service, which is to enable the developers to take certain parts of main application’s functionality and integrate them into other applications. Practically, Connect Web is being turned into components for the company’s Flex development environment, so that the developers could build and host collaborative applications on Connect.

Pacifica and CoCoMo represent part of Adobe’s strategy of providing the developers the ability to add real-time business collaboration capabilities to the rich Internet applications.
