It has been just this week that
Microsoft Corp. has publicly spoken about the Uniform Resource Identifier (URI)
protocol bug that affects its operating system. But the security researchers
have made already a new discovery, unfortunately. They have said that this
protocol bug is likely to affect several different operating systems excepting
Microsoft’s Windows after all.
Nathan McFeters, one of the
security researchers that have been studying this already famous flaw, has
promised he tries to soon present more details on how the protocol bug is
suspectible to affect also the Unix-based operating systems such as Linux or
Apple’s Mac OS X. McFeters hopes to be ready with presenting more details on
this topic with the occasion of the Toorcon hacking conference that will be
held the week to come in San Diego.
Although the security researchers
have not found a way to run unauthorized code also on the Unix-based operating
systems, they have still found a number of issues that look like they might be
grounds for further research.
The URI protocol bug that has
been studied by the security researcher over the past recent months is being
related to the URI protocol handling technology, which is used for launching
programs within the web browsers.
