The Anaheim Ducks secured their place in the Stanley Cup final for the second time in four seasons after their 4-3 victory over the Detroit Red Wings in Game Six of the Western Conference finals on Tuesday. Last time the Ducks reached this stage of the competition was in 2003 when they lost the final against the New Jersey Devils in seven games. "It's not something that happens every year," Anaheim’s goal keeper Jean-Sebastien Giguere said Tuesday night after the victory. "So we need to enjoy it until the end of the night tonight and then we need to move on, focus on Ottawa." With a crowd of 17,380 behind them at the Honda Center, Anaheim finished the best-of-seven series with the overall score of 4-2. Game 1 of the series against the Ottawa Senators is scheduled in Anaheim on May 28. With just 3:51 into the game Anaheim took the lead after a Chris Pronger's deflected slap-shot got in off Niedermayer’s ankle. In the second period the Ducks increased their lead through the goals of Corey Perry (9:52) and Getzlaf (18:33) on a power-play. Samuel Pahlsson's goal with 14:06 remaining was the one that made the difference as the Ducks withstood a three-goal outburst by the Red Wings in the third period. Jean-Sebastien Giguere finished with 26 saves and Dominik Hasek had 25. The Red Wings came back in the game with a goal from Henrik Zetterberg and two power-play goals from Pavel Datsyuk. They outshot the Ducks 16-3 in the third period. "Games 4 and 5 where we played at every opportunity to win and let them slip away, that in the end cost us. You have to tip your hat to Anaheim," Detroit’s coach Mike Babcock said. "They've got a good team and they found a way to get it done, and they are going to play a good Ottawa team." The Ducks will face the surprising Senators in the NHL championship round beginning Monday in Anaheim.
