Valerie Bertinelli is coming clean about her errors in the
past, such as cheating and being on drugs.
Her autobiographical book “Losing It: And Gaining My Life
Back One Pound at a Time” reveals allegedly true details on her past,
disclosing also aspects of her 26-year old marriage to rocker Eddie Van Halen.
Bertinelli, who has recently become the new image of
weight-loss program Jenny Craig, was invited on Monday on the “The Oprah
Winfrey Show” to promote her memoir book. There, in front of Oprah and millions
of viewers, she confessed that she cheated on her husband, whom she married
when she was only 20, in 1981.
The longtime sitcom star of “One Day at a Time” explained
how her affair with Steven Spielberg made its debut, him sending her flowers
and an invitation to go out. This is how it started and went further. She
admitted that she still didn’t know who initiated cheating in their marriage,
Van Halen or her, however, she said that her former husband claimed that it was
her who was the first. Bertinelli, who is now 47, also admitted to kissing
another woman.
After 26 years of marriage, Bertinelli and Van Halen
separated the last year, with their divorce becoming official in December. The
former couple has a son together, Wolfgang, who is currently touring with the
rock band, replacing the initial bassist Michael Anthony.
Furthermore, Bertinelli recognized her habits of snorting
cocaine during her former marriage. Also, she admitted the past body issues she
had. Bertinelli explained that she chose this moment to reveal all the
hush-hush details of her past, due to the fact that she had become a
spokesmodel for Jenny Craig.
“I just figured, if they're going to
watch me lose 40 lbs. and I'm going to be embarrassed that way, and there's
going to be fat-ass pictures of me with my butt hanging out in Hawaii, I
thought, 'Why not let the inner me out, too?’” she said. “Because the inner me
is, I hope, prettier than the outer me,” Bertinelli added.
