Stanley Cup Finals: First Blood

The Anaheim Ducks won the first game of the Stanley Cup finals over the Ottawa Senators after a pair of third-period goals.

The Ducks were one goal behind, 2-1, at the beginning of the third period.
Their goals came from Ryan Getzlaf , who tied it up at 5:44 of the third, and the game winner from Travis Moen, who  took a pass from Rob Niedermayer and beat Ray Emery at 17:09 with a perfect low shot inside the left post to steal Game One of the best-of-seven series.

"I saw the puck and it was kind of bouncing and I got lucky and caught it on the way down, got a lucky shot and it went in," Moen said in the press conference.
"It was huge to go up 3-2 with a couple of minutes left. I think every kid dreams of scoring a goal to win a game in a Stanley Cup final. It's something special and something I will never forget."

Andy MacDonald also scored for the Ducks.

Mike Fisher and Wade Redden scored for the Senators, but Ottawa was unable to hold a one-goal lead in the third period. They didn’t seemed to be in great shape after the nine-day layoff and didn't react well to the physical play from the Ducks, especially in the third period.

"It's not so much what they did, it's what we didn't do," said the Senators' Jason Spezza

Ottawa has never trailed a series in this year's playoffs and will have to react better in Game 2.
History and statistics are now on Anaheim’s side as the team that has won Game 1 in the Cup final has won the title 77 per cent of the time.

The Ducks, who will host Game 2 of the best-of-seven series tomorrow night at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
