Stanley Cup Finals: Ducks Win Game 2, 1-0

Sammy Pahlsson was the offensive hero of the night as he scored past Ray Emery with 5:44 left to give his Anaheim Ducks the 1-0 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday night and the 2-0 lead in the Stanley Cup finals.

Anaheim’s player raced past Daniel Alfredsson and snapped a shot from the dot of the right circle through Joe Corvo’s legs and past the stick of goalie Ray Emery for the third period winning goal.

"We worked really hard the whole game for that one, but we couldn't get anything by Emery," Pahlsson said. "We just try to play our game, make it easy for us and hard for them."

Ducks coach Randy Carlyle is sure that Pahlsson goal wasn’t just a lucky one, but the result of his team hard work and discipline throughout the game.

”That line from the beginning of the year have been able to give us quality minutes,” coach Carlyle said of the Pahlsson, Rob Niedermayer, Travis Moen trio. “And as you know in the playoffs, everybody steps up the defensive aspect of the game at least 20 to 25 percent. And always, people separate themselves on the offensive side. It’s nice to see that these three players are getting rewarded for hard work.

Both goal keepers were in great shape. Jean-Sebastien Giguere finished with 16 blocks for his sixth postseason shutout and first this year and Ray Emery had 30 saves for Ottawa.

The series now shifts to Ottawa, with Game 3 scheduled for Saturday, June 2, at 8 p.m. ET, where the Senators will have to figure out a way to stop the Ducks’ offensive before its too late.
"Anybody who writes this team off is crazy," Ottawa’s forward Jason Spezza stated. "We feel like we can get a couple games at home."
