Although not all of us know what
bloatware or crapware is, we are all irritated because of it.
When we buy them, most of
computers come loaded with small applications or games that were put there in
order to convince us to buy all kinds of new services or software programs.
Although the idea is highly irritating for most of us because crapware is
slowing our new computers, companies are still using this marketing technique.
In this context, Sony seemed to
want to make a difference. The popular Japanese company had announced the
“Fresh Start” program, which was set to convince users to pay an extra amount
of $50 just to get a new computer without the unwanted software.
However, shortly after launching
the program, Sony seems to have realized how absurd its idea was; the company
announced on Friday that it would drop the $50 fee.
Thus, Sony is to offer the
service for free. "Starting tomorrow [Saturday], Sony will offer Fresh
Start free of charge," the Japanese company reportedly said in a statement
for InformationWeek. "We want Vaio users to have the best experience
possible with our PCs, and we believe Fresh Start will help ensure that happens
right out of the box," Sony also said.
The fee-based service had been
launched for Vaio VGN-TZ2500 and VGN-TZ2000, two notebooks priced $3,050 and
$1,900, respectively. Sony had plans to extend the fee-based service also to
its other notebooks.
But Sony’s notebooks' fans are
lucky this time!
