AT&T May Cut iPhone Prices by $200

According to Fortune, AT&T is well on its way to offering a $200 subsidy for those who will purchase the next-generation of iPhones, which is most likely to be made available this summer. The release date may be chosen at the end of June, in order to mark the one-year anniversary of the first iPhone generation’s launch (June 29, 2007).

This offer however will only be accessible to customers who choose the two-year contract and strangely enough, it seems that Apple stores are not going to join AT&T’s initiative.

Both companies are currently selling the iPhone for $399 and $499, the difference being given by storage space. Since the smart phone was launched last year, more than five million units have been sold and things are only going to get better. According to Bank of America Corp., Apple will produce at least 11 million 3G iPhones by the end of the third quarter of 2008. This new phone will operate on AT&T’s faster network, which will provide Internet users with a significant speed boost. The range of its uses will be diversified even further, as it will also feature GPS navigation.

Nothing has been stated officially yet and one can only speculate on the 3G iPhone’s launch date, performance or price; AT&T’s marketing plan is even more unclear. There is some good news though: everything will be made clear in less than two months!
