Stanley Cup Finals Preview

After their elusive road win the Anaheim Ducks are ready to do what they do best: close things out at home.

The Mighty Ducks managed to reach the Stanley Cup finals twice an on both occasions they were perfect on home ice and inept in enemy territory.
All that changed in Ottawa on Monday and set up an NHL-style beach party.

The Ducks lead the Senators 3-1 in the best-of-seven series and tonight have the opportunity to get their hands on the Stanley Cup for the first time.

''We learned a lot of lessons the last two years,'' said captain Scott Niedermayer . ''All those past situations, we'll be able to go back and those will help.''

History and statistics are on Anaheim’s side. Of the 28 teams that have led 3-1 in the Stanley Cup final since the best-of-seven format was introduced in 1939, 27 have gone on to win the Stanley Cup.
On the other hand, Senators’ chances don’t look good at all. Only the Toronto Maple Leafs managed to overcome such odds in 1942 when they manage to defeat the Detroit Red Wings.

Senators’ task gets even tougher as they have to win three straight games against a team that has outplayed them over the first four games.
Al that they have left to do is believe and show it on the ice tonight.

"It's the biggest game we've been involved in this year," said goalie Ray Emery.

"Is it impossible to come out of? No. We've won three games in a row against great teams this year tons of times. So certainly we can win two games in a row, no problem.

"Once you do that, it's just whoever wins Game 7.We have to look at it one game at a time, but it's something we're definitely capable of."

This position it’s not a new one for the Sens. In 2003, they fell behind 3-1 to the New Jersey Devils in the Eastern Conference final, but rebounded to force a Game 7.
Hopefully, for the sake of the finals show, they will repeat their 2003 performance and may the best team win it in Game 7.
