Mozilla’s Firefox 3.0 Coming on June 17

It is now finally official! The Mozilla Foundation announced the release of the Firefox 3.0 browser for June 17. According to company officials, this version’s development required more than 34 months of work; the result however seems to be satisfactory.

"Put on your party hats and get ready to download Firefox 3 — the best web browser, period," the company confidently said.

Mozilla urged users everywhere to massively download the browser on its first day of release. The company intends to take the 3.0 version to the Guinness World Records book as the software with the biggest number of downloads on its launch day.

On Tuesday, Firefox 3 will be delivered for Mac and Windows; Linux users will have to wait a bit more.

Mozilla people said the new software comes with over 15,000 adjustments and enhancements when compared to the previous version.

Among the numerous Firefox 3 features, both old and new, we find the smart location bar, one-click bookmarking, smart zoom (it can be used to enlarge the entire content of the page, not just the text) and the ability to resume downloads in the case of Internet connection failure.

Apple is a rather strong competitor of Mozilla. Its new Snow Leopard is scheduled for release in 2009 and it is to bring important "performance enhancements and stability improvements," that would solve all its predecessor’s (OS X 10.5) problems.
