The MTV Music Awards to Be Held in Los Angeles

The MTV Video Music Awards will be getting its old home. The biggest music awards ceremony of the fall would return to Los Angeles on September 7, for the first time in a decade, the lifestyle cable network announced on Monday.

Since 1998, when Los Angeles last hosted the event, the MTV Video Music Awards have been held in New York, Miami and last year in Las Vegas.

The event will be broadcast live from Tinseltown this year. Last year, 7.1 million MTV viewers watched the festivities which took place at Vegas Palms Casino Resort, according to Nielsen Media Research.

“The City of Los Angeles is proud to host the MTV Video Music Awards,” said City of Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa in a statement.

“There is no better place to hold one of the music industry's most exciting awards shows than right here in Los Angeles, the entertainment capital of the world. We will roll out the red carpet for MTV and allow this awards show to not only recognizes the best in music, but to also celebrate the creative talent and diversity our great city has to offer,” he added.

This year’s host, nominees, performers and presenters will be announced at a later date.

After last year’s performance of Britney Spears, no one could tell what this year might bring.
