Anaheim Extends Carlyle’s Contract
Anaheim Ducks’ coach Randy Carlyle agreed to coach the Stanley Cup champs for another year hoping to guide them to a successful 2008-2009 seson.

"This is something we all strive for," Carlyle said, "and to have the opportunity to work with this group of people, I'm very fortunate."

"Randy has been the perfect fit for this organization with his hardworking, aggressive style," GM Brian Burke said yesterday. "He has been a major factor in the success we've had the past two seasons."

Carlyle and Burke agreed to an extension since the NHL All-Star break but Carlyle said he didn’t want to distract his players from their objective postponing the announcement.

"I think it's always important that we didn't stray away from the task at hand," Carlyle said from his vacation home near Rockville, Canada. "Both sides were happy with what would transpire."

With Carlyle as coach, the Ducks became the first California team to win the Stanley Cup. They defeated the Ottawa Senators 4-1 in the championship series last week.
En route to their Stanley Cup title, the Ducks also eliminated Minnesota (five games), Vancouver (five games) and Detroit (six games).

Anaheim has a regular-season record of 91-47-26 since Carlyle’s arrival at the club on August 1, 2005as the seventh coach in Ducks’ history.

Carlyle tied an NHL record by winning 25 playoff games in his first two seasons. Jean Perron also recorded 25 playoff victories with Montreal in 1985-86 and 1986-87.

Carlyle’s coaching career:
Carlyle spent six seasons (1996-2001 & 2004-2005) as head coach of the Manitoba Moose (both in the International and American Hockey Leagues), earning a career mark of 222-159-52-7 with the franchise.

He had the additional duties of General Manager of the Moose from 1996-2000, adding the title of club President for the 2001-2002 season. He helped the Moose to a 47-21-14 record for 108 points in 1998-99, for which he was named the IHL's General Manager of the Year.

Following the 2001-2002 season, Carlyle joined the Washington Capitals as an assistant coach for two years (2002-2004), before rejoining The Moose.

Carlyle spent 2004-2005 as head coach of the Manitoba Moose, the Vancouver Canucks’ primary development affiliate in the AHL. In 2004-2005, he led the Moose to a 44-26-3-7 record (.613 winning percentage) and an appearance in the Calder Cup Semi-Finals.
Since August 1, 2005, he has been head coach of the Anaheim Ducks.
